Engineers and Geoscientists Scholarships

If you are planning to study Engineering or Geoscience at UBC, SFU, UVic, BCIT, or UNBC, you can apply for an Entrance Scholarhsip valued at $2,500, direct to the University.

Also, there is a $1,000 scholarship for those of you going to college and will be in the engineering or geoscience transfer program.

2012 Maple Leaf Youth Awards

The awards are designed to recognize well-rounded British Columbian students who demonstrate an understanding of Canadian identity and exceptional achievements in one or more of the following:

. Outstanding achievements in Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Applied Arts or Digital Media
. Exemplary contributions to the community – locally, nationally, and or internationally
. Exceptional athletic achievement

The Essay
A 500 word essay on the following topic is required:
What does it mean to be a Canadian citizen in the 21st century?
Three Awards will be Given
$1,500 for the first place Recipient
$1,000 for the second place Recipient
$750 for the third place Recipient

B.C. Electrical Association 2012 Bursary Program

Phillip Paulson Scholarship

This is a $500 scholarship for post-secondary awarded to students who demonstrates compassion, a dedication to serving others through volunteer work at school and beyond, a commitment to the betterment of individuals or the greater society. LPI Exam on Thursday, April 19, 2012

Just a reminder that John Oliver school is registered to host the LPI exam on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Student registration is now open online and will close on April 10th. Please register at www.lpitest.ca . All students must register as soon as possible since no walk-ins will be allowed on the day of the test. Additionally, please note that if there are less than 5 students registered at your school, the sittings may have to be cancelled and the students will be transferred to a Public Sitting in your area.

Veazey Scholarship is a fully funded 4 year scholarship to UBC. There will be four of these scholarships awarded in May 2012. W. Garfield Weston Entrance Scholarships

The online application for the Entrance W. Garfield Weston Awards is now available at www.garfieldwestonawards.ca/EntranceAwards. Up to 25 awards are available to students who begin their college studies at one of our participating colleges. University programs and university-transfer programs are not eligible. The deadline for applications to be received is 28 March 2012. The award comprises an $8,000 annual stipend, a tuition waiver from a participating college and $3,500 in summer funding. It also includes a mentorship program and participation in an annual leadership conference. We are looking for students who are passionate about their field of study; curious, courageous, and willing to try new things; and community-minded and truly interested in becoming involved and making a difference in society. Students must be bound for full-time community college or CEGEP studies starting in September 2012.

Kids Help Phone

Kids Help Phone is an excellent resource to use if you need someone to talk to and you need help. You can call them at 1 800 668 6868. You can be any age and they will help you with family issues, anger management, stress, finances, helath issues, bullying, dating, etc. They are completely confidential so you don't have to provide your name. Making Marks Available to Post Secondary Institutions

You can now go on the Ministry of Education website and make your marks available to the PSI's. Just log on to your account, click on Post Secondary Institution selections, the select PSI's. When you see "Forward my transcript to all BC Electronic PSIs", click the box that says "Yes". Then click on "Confirm" on the bottom of the page. On the next screen, click on the box that says "By checking this box you give permission to release school and examination marks to PSIs". Then click "Confirm" on the bottom of the page. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Alvares. Those students who have done this already, please help your friends with this.
